SHILLONG, Sept 20: As many as 127 youth in Shillong received appointment letters on Saturday as the 20th Rozgar Mela was held at 45 locations across the country, with more than 51,000 appointment letters distributed.
With the latest appointments, the total number of beneficiaries under the Rozgar Mela has reached around 12.75 lakh.
The Shillong programme was held at the State Convention Centre in the presence of Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the newly appointed candidates through video conferencing.
The 127 candidates from Shillong will join various departments, including the Income Tax Department, Indian Railways and India Post.
Addressing the gathering, Margherita congratulated the newly appointed youth and their families and said the appointment letters marked not merely the beginning of a career but a journey of service, responsibility and nation-building.
He highlighted the potential of the Northeast and said improved connectivity and infrastructure were creating an ecosystem where young people could study, work, innovate and build their futures within the region. He urged the newly appointed youth to contribute to the country’s future with dedication, integrity and a strong sense of public service.
Modi congratulated the new recruits and their families and said young people joining government service had an important role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He urged them to keep citizens and their aspirations at the centre of their work and contribute to Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s expanding startup and employment ecosystem, skill development, apprenticeships and entrepreneurship, particularly among women and youth. He stressed the importance of transparent and accessible recruitment processes, including examinations in regional languages and greater choice of examination centres.
Modi also highlighted Mission Karmayogi, under which more than 1.72 crore users have registered for continuous learning and capacity building. He urged the new recruits to continuously improve their skills and understand emerging technologies and systems.
Calling upon the employees to follow the principle of “Nagarik Devo Bhava”, Modi said service to citizens was service to the nation and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, sensitivity, efficiency and honesty.
The programme was organised by the Office of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong. It was attended by Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong Darzakhum Songate, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North East Region Ningreirum Longvah and Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong K. Meghanath Chowhan, besides newly appointed candidates and officials from various departments.
