14 UNLF (Koireng) Cadres Arrested in Manipur Operation, Arms and Cash Seized

Imphal, March 23: In a major security operation, Manipur Police arrested 14 cadres linked to the proscribed United National Liberation Front (Koireng) from the Haokhong area under Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district on March 22.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Nameirakpam Kondum Meitei alias Lanheiba (46), Sorokhaibam Rosesh alias Kangleipuba alias Kilo-I (43), Takhelchangbam Rajendro Sharma alias Khaba (59), Yelam Ratan Singh alias Khamba (54), Ahanthem Ratan Meitei alias Shiroi (30), Soyam Sanjeep (42), Toijam Karjit Singh (20), Pukhrihongbam Nongsaba Meitei alias Laidaba (18), Kanghujam Myson Meitei (17), Thoudam Muna Meitei alias Inao (19), Konsam Bebeto Meetei (28), Wahengbam Santosh Meitei (19), Kshetrimayum Dickson Singh (19), and Chingakham Romesh Singh alias Yaiphaba (30), hailing from various parts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Thoubal districts.

According to police, the operation resulted in the recovery of two INSAS rifles, eight INSAS light machine gun magazines, five INSAS rifle magazines, and 100 rounds of INSAS ammunition. Security personnel also seized ₹1 lakh in cash, 12 mobile phones, five helmets, five backpacks, and four four-wheeler vehicles during the raid.

Officials stated that the crackdown is likely to significantly disrupt the group’s local network across parts of the Imphal valley and adjoining areas. The arrested cadres are currently being interrogated to ascertain their specific roles and potential links to recent insurgent activities.

Police confirmed that further investigation is underway.
