14-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Singtam, Police and Volunteers Recover Body

Singtam (Sikkim), March 10: A 14-year-old boy, S.P. Sherpa, drowned in Singtam on Monday, prompting an extensive search operation by police, fire personnel, and local volunteers.

The victim, a resident of Shantinagar and originally from Soreng district, was reported missing by his guardian around 7:30 pm after being untraceable since the morning. Investigators gathered information from children playing near the Rani Khola river, who reported seeing the boy swimming alone at approximately 2:30 pm.

Acting on this lead, Sub-Assistant Kushal Chettri and volunteers located the boy at a depth of around 10 feet in a pond near the river. He was rushed to the District Hospital, where the medical officer declared him dead.

Police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case and begun legal formalities. SHO Kishor Kumar Chettri expressed condolences to the family and urged guardians to closely supervise children near rivers, ponds, and other water bodies to prevent similar tragedies.
