21-Feet Bronze Statue of Homen Borgohain Unveiled in Dhakuakhana

Dhakuakhana: Assam today observed the 93rd birth anniversary of eminent writer, journalist and intellectual Homen Borgohain with deep respect. A towering figure in Assamese public life from the late 20th to the early 21st century, Borgohain was widely regarded as a guardian, guide and moral voice of society. His contributions as a litterateur, educator, thinker and committed social worker enriched Assamese language, literature and culture in remarkable ways.

Born on this day in 1931 at Dhakuakhana, Borgohain is fondly remembered across the state for his strong personality, progressive ideas and fearless journalism. Various organisations and institutions held memorial meetings and cultural programmes to honour his enduring legacy.

Marking the occasion, a 21-feet full-length bronze statue of Homen Borgohain was formally unveiled in Dhakuakhana. The statue, installed at the Homen Borgohain Nyas office premises near Charikoria Par, was inaugurated by Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley, who paid floral tributes and reflected on the far-reaching influence of Borgohain’s writings and social vision.

The commemorative event featured a soulful cultural programme attended by several distinguished personalities. Chief guest Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury—renowned scientist, author and former Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University—addressed the gathering. Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, noted writer-musician Dr. Anjanjyoti Choudhury, poet Anupama Basumatari and many other prominent figures were also present.

Across Assam, the day served as a heartfelt reminder of Borgohain’s timeless impact on literature, journalism, and the intellectual fabric of Assamese society.
