Guwahati/ New Delhi, Oct 27: Delivering a powerful virtual address during the 47th ASEAN Summit 2025, on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that the 21st century belongs to India and the ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) nations.
The 47th ASEAN Summit 2025 is being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from October 26 to 28, 2025. It is a major diplomatic event bringing together leaders from ASEAN member nationsto discuss pressing regional issues.
This year’s Summit theme – “Inclusivity and Sustainability” reflects ASEAN’s focus on regional cooperation, economic growth and adressing global challenges.
Speaking virtually during the Summit the Indian Prime Minister said, “The 21st century is our century. It is India’s and ASEAN’s century. I’m confident that the aim of ‘ASEAN Community Vision 2045’ and ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ will develop a bright future for the entire humanity”.
PM Modi also said that the ASEAN is a major pillar of India’s Act East Policy apart from underlining Indian’s vision for a shared, inclusive and sustainable future in partnership with Southeast Asia.
Modi also proclaimed that the year 2026 will be observed as the ‘Year of ASEAN-India Maritime Cooperation’, signalling a new phase in bilateral collaboration across the Indian Ocean.
Malaysia has been the host for the ASEAN Summit 2025 while Phillipines will be chairing the ASEAN Summit 2026.
