31st Bn. SSB organizes final football tournament at Takampur

Gossaigaon: Under the Civic Action Programme, the 31st Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) organised the grand finale of a football tournament match at the central ground in Takampur village on Thursday, intending to promote sports culture in border areas and foster closer ties between security forces and local communities. Held under the guidance of Amit Singh, Commandant, 31st Bn SSB, the event sought to engage youth in positive activities while strengthening coordination and mutual trust with civilians. Dr S K Paul, Senior Scientist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, attended as the chief guest, while Deepak Narzary, Chairman, TCLCC Kachugaon, was the guest of honour. Several dignitaries, public representatives and members of social organisations were also present.

Six sports clubs from the battalion’s operational area participated in the tournament. In the final match, Takampur Rawswami Club defeated Bangtijhora Jagruti Club by a convincing 7–2 margin to lift the trophy. Around 1,000 civilians from border villages, along with officers and personnel of the 31st Bn SSB, witnessed the event. Alongside the tournament, a Millets and Youth Fair, a Medical Civic Action Programme, and a Veterinary Civic Action Programme were organised. Free medical check-ups and treatment were provided to residents and their livestock, an initiative that drew widespread appreciation from the local community.

At the closing ceremony, sports kits were distributed to players of all participating teams, and trophies were presented to the winner and runner-up. Addressing the gathering, Commandant Amit Singh said such sporting events help inculcate discipline, leadership, team spirit and positive thinking among youth. He urged young people to adopt sports as a way of life and to remain drug-free, while reaffirming the SSB’s commitment to the welfare, security and development of border populations. The programme was widely hailed as a meaningful step towards promoting sportsmanship, youth empowerment and stronger bonds between security forces and civilians in border areas.
