Mangaldai: The 43rd Abhiruchi Sports Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Mangaldai to mark the birth anniversary of Assam’s celebrated athlete and Arjuna Awardee Bhogeswar Baruah. Organised by the North Mangaldai Club (NMC), the event began at 6 am with a mass run, which was flagged off by Darrang District Commissioner Ayushi Jain. Mount Everest climber Rupamoni Gaur led the run.

A felicitation programme was later organised at the NMC premises to honour sportspersons for their achievements. Senior mountaineer and ITBP Assistant Commandant Bhanita Timungpi, Everest climber Rupamoni Gaur, Ranji Trophy cricketer Darshan Rajbongshi and state-level athlete Nandita Sharma were felicitated on the occasion.
The programme was attended by Darrang Zilla Parishad CEO Kalpana Deka, sports organiser and NMC president Gurujyoti Das, Mangaldai Development Authority chairman Pratap Bordoloi and MSA secretary Pranab Baruah, among others. The celebration highlighted the contribution of sportspersons and reinforced the importance of promoting sports and fitness among the younger generation.
