70,000 ‘Yaba’ tablets worth Rs 10 crore seized

Guwahati: In a significant blow to the drug trade, Assam Police seized 70,000 banned Yaba tablets valued at over ₹10 crore from Sribhumi district on Friday night. One drug peddler was arrested during the operation. Confirming the development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on his official X handle, “Still think you can outrun Assam Police? One peddler has been caught in this #AssamAgainstDrugs drive.” Police officials said the crackdown is part of a sustained campaign to dismantle narcotics networks operating across the state. “Yaba, which contains methamphetamine and caffeine, is a major threat to the youth of Assam,” a senior officer noted, adding that legal action is underway against the arrested individual. This seizure comes close on the heels of another operation earlier in the week, when Kamrup police intercepted a vehicle smuggling narcotics from Churachandpur, Manipur. The search led to the recovery of 910 grams of heroin concealed in 74 soap boxes hidden inside door panels and the rear compartment of the vehicle. Assam Police have intensified their operations under the state’s #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign, aiming to curb the inflow of narcotics and safeguard young people from substance abuse.
