Imphal, Feb 8: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday, February 8, carried out an early-morning visit to Thangal Bazar to assess the progress of road development and renovation works underway in one of Imphal’s most crowded commercial areas. The inspection reflected the state government’s ongoing focus on strengthening urban infrastructure and improving facilities in key market zones.
During the visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan, Keishamthong MLA Nishikant Sapam, and senior officials from the Public Works Department, the Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development Department, and the Imphal Municipal Corporation. Together, they reviewed the scope and execution of the redevelopment work being carried out in and around the bustling market.
Interacting with officials at the site, Singh examined the pace and quality of the construction activities and issued clear instructions to accelerate the work without compromising standards. He underlined that timely completion was essential to reduce disruption for shopkeepers, commuters and residents who depend on Thangal Bazar for daily trade and services.
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of coordination among the different departments involved, noting that effective teamwork was crucial to ensure that the redevelopment efforts result in better traffic movement, enhanced safety and an improved visual appeal of the market area. The inspection was part of a broader government initiative aimed at modernising urban infrastructure and rejuvenating traditional commercial hubs across Manipur.
