Agartala, Feb 9: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit Tripura on February 20, just weeks before the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, according to sources in the state BJP. The proposed visit is being seen as politically significant as parties intensify preparations for the crucial council polls in the tribal-dominated areas of the state.
Senior party sources indicated that Shah is likely to be in Tripura for a day, although the official schedule is yet to be released. BJP leaders said preparations are underway for the visit, which is expected to combine both government and organisational engagements. “While the final programme has not been formally announced, indications suggest that the Home Minister will arrive in the state on February 20,” a party functionary said.
During his stay, Shah is likely to participate in a government event showcasing key development initiatives implemented by the Centre in Tripura. In addition, he is expected to hold a closed-door meeting with the BJP’s state leadership, where organisational issues and electoral strategies for the upcoming TTAADC polls could be discussed.
The anticipated visit is being viewed within the party as a morale booster for cadres and leaders, especially in tribal regions where the council elections hold considerable political importance. BJP leaders believe Shah’s presence will help galvanise the organisation and sharpen its campaign outreach as the contest for the autonomous council approaches.
