Guwahati, Feb 10: Goalpara police arrested three alleged counterfeit currency dealers and seized fake notes with a face value of ₹7.5 lakh during a late-night operation on February 9.
The arrests followed a chase by joint teams of Goalpara, Agia and Lakhipur police led by West Goalpara Sub-Divisional Superintendent of Police Abhilash Barua. The accused were intercepted at Kochpara in the Sholmary area after being chased from Lakhipur.
Police identified the arrested persons as Rashidul Islam (29) of Tukura Third Block, Wajed Ali (32) of Ramharichar, and Zahidul Islam (26) of Krishnai. Three mobile phones and two motorcycles were also seized from their possession.
Officials said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the counterfeit currency and to identify other members of the racket.
