Biswanath Chariali: The makeshift bridge connecting the Bokorapatta and Kuruwa Ati area in the southern part of Sootea was almost swept away by the recent flood wave this afternoon causing a great deal of transportation hazards among the residents of both of the banks. It is to be mentioned here that the wooden bridge was constructed during the last term of the Tarun Gogoi led government.

This is the only bridge that connects both banks. But due to lack of repair, it became deplorable for use. The local residents frequently repair it using logs of bamboo and subsequently it turns into a bamboo bridge from the wooden bridge. The only means of communication was swept away by the flood today causing a great deal of communication hazard among the residents. The local residents appealed to the concerned Biswanath MLA Pramod Borthakur drawing his attention towards the dilapidated bridge but in vain.

It is worth mentioning that due to the consistent rain in the state and in Arunachal Pradesh and due to the rising level of the Ghiladhari river, Mornoi and Sadharu flood occurred in the areas alongside. The local residents and the South Sootea branch of AAMSU demanded immediate repair of the collapsed bridge. It is further pertinent to mention here that a section of area in the north-western part of Biswanath have been flooded by the uprising of the Ghiladhari river causing great deal of loss to the paddy field and damage to the dwelling houses.
