Kuki Christian Church Appeals for Calm After House Burnings in Manipur’s Ukhrul District

Imphal, Feb 11: The Kuki Christian Church (KCC) has called for restraint following recent incidents of house burnings involving Tangkhul and Kuki families at Litan, Sareikhong village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district. In a statement from its Kangpokpi headquarters, Dr T. Lunkim, Administrative Secretary of the KCC, described the events as deeply unfortunate and urged both communities to avoid further escalation.

Dr Lunkim emphasised that acts of arson and violence contradict the principles of peace and non-violence upheld in Christian teachings and civil society. He noted that the destruction of homes not only causes material loss but also strains long-standing relations and peaceful coexistence between neighbouring communities.

The KCC appealed to members of the Kuki and Tangkhul communities to remain calm and refrain from retaliatory actions. The church also urged religious leaders, civil society organisations, and community elders to facilitate dialogue and reconciliation to ease tensions. Authorities and law enforcement agencies were called upon to take appropriate measures to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.
