Margherita: Serious allegations have been levelled against the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) in Margherita, with locals accusing the department of negligence and inaction despite a looming danger that threatens lives.
Residents allege that the APDCL office has turned into a “death trap” for citizens by ignoring repeated warnings about hazardous live wires. The immediate concern arises from a large broken tree branch hanging precariously over electrical cables along the busy Margherita–Alubari road. Locals fear the branch could collapse at any moment, snapping the wires and triggering a major accident.

Commuters and residents say they have been living in constant fear, especially since the stretch is heavily used during peak morning and evening hours. Despite multiple appeals, citizens claim the Margherita APDCL office has remained unresponsive. According to them, neither assistant engineers nor linemen have inspected the site or taken preventive steps.
“We have informed them many times, but no one from the office has come to clear the branch. If something happens, who will take responsibility?” a concerned resident asked.

Many fear that unless swift action is taken, Margherita could soon witness another tragic incident born of official apathy.
