Academic Leaders from 20 States Deliberate on NEP Implementation at Tezpur University

Tezpur: A three-day National Workshop on “NEP 2020 Implementation for University Administrators” began on Wednesday at Tezpur University. The programme has been jointly organised by the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, and the Department of Education, Tezpur University, with the objective of providing orientation and training to senior university administrators responsible for translating policy into practice.

The workshop brings together Vice-Chancellors, Registrars, Deans, Academic Council Members, and Heads of Departments from across the country to deliberate on effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The inaugural session was graced by Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, who, as Chief Guest, emphasized the pivotal role of academic leadership in shaping the future of Indian higher education. “Policies like the National Education Policy 2020 give us direction, but it is our responsibility to adapt and implement them in ways that are meaningful to our institutions and communities,” he remarked.

Prof. Neeru Snehi, Programme Director and Head, Training and Professional Development, NIEPA, underlined the importance of sensitising academic administrators to revised academic structures such as the Academic Bank of Credits, multiple entry–exit pathways, and credit-based learning, which form the core of NEP reforms.

On the occasion, Prof. Chandan Kumar Sharma, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, and Dr. Sashapra Chakrawarty, Head, Department of Education, Tezpur University, also shared their insights and outlined the roadmap of the workshop.

The workshop has drawn participation from 30 senior administrators representing universities across 20 states, including Utkal University (Odisha), University of Mysore (Karnataka), University of Mumbai (Maharashtra), Panjab University (Chandigarh), Cotton University (Assam), Central University of Kashmir (J&K), Mizoram University, Gauhati University, and Tezpur University (Assam), among others.
