Kiren Rijiju Says He Is Personally Monitoring Delhi Racial Abuse Case

Itanagar, Feb 25: Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday, February 25, said he had been personally monitoring the racial abuse case involving three women from Arunachal Pradesh in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar and confirmed that arrests had been made.

Speaking on the incident, Rijiju stated that his office had been in touch with the victims since the first day and had coordinated with the Delhi Police to ensure prompt action. He said any incident involving people from the Northeast in the national capital was taken seriously and assured that strict legal action would follow.

The Minister contrasted the present response mechanism with what he described as a troubling past, when students and youth from the Northeast allegedly faced harassment and violence in metropolitan cities with little institutional support. He asserted that such neglect would no longer be tolerated.

Rijiju credited reforms undertaken under the leadership of Narendra Modi, including the creation of a dedicated mechanism within the Delhi Police to address complaints concerning people from the Northeast. He said the specialised framework ensured swift registration of complaints and timely action.

Emphasising coordination between the Centre and states, Rijiju said his office tracked such incidents beyond Delhi and ensured accountability. Reiterating that discrimination would not be tolerated, he said targeting individuals from the Northeast would invite firm legal consequences and assured citizens from the region that the government remained vigilant.
