National, Feb 25: The Delhi Police on Wednesday, February 25, arrested Ruby Jain and her husband Harsh in connection with the alleged incident involving three women tenants from the North-East residing in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar.
Police registered an FIR at Malviya Nagar Police Station under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman), Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation), Section 196 (promoting enmity between groups on grounds such as race or place of birth), and Section 3(5) (acts done in furtherance of common intention). Investigators also invoked relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act based on material on record.
Authorities said an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police was leading the probe under the close supervision of senior officials. Visuals of Ruby Jain surfaced after her arrest, and police confirmed that her husband had also been taken into custody. Further investigation is underway.
Reacting to the development, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said his office had remained in constant touch with both the victims and the police since the matter came to light. He asserted that strict legal action would be taken against those found guilty and stressed that misconduct against people from the North-East in the national capital was treated with utmost seriousness.
