National, Feb 25: Rekha Gupta on February 25 strongly condemned the recent incident in Malviya Nagar, asserting that Delhi belongs to everyone and that the dignity, safety and respect of all citizens, particularly women from the Northeast, are non-negotiable.
In a video statement shared on X, Gupta said she would personally meet the victims and assured that the police were taking legal action with full responsibility. She stated that the strictest possible action would be ensured against those found guilty and that harassment, discrimination or insult against any woman would not be tolerated.
Her remarks came in the backdrop of an alleged incident in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, where three women from Arunachal Pradesh accused a neighbour couple of hurling racial slurs and verbally abusing them during a dispute over minor AC repair work. Following the complaint, the Delhi Police registered an FIR and initiated action.
Police confirmed that Ruby Jain and her husband Harsh had been arrested in connection with the case. The matter is being investigated by an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police under the supervision of senior officials.
The FIR was registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 79, 351(2), 196 and 3(5). Relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were also invoked based on material available on record, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations.
