Unprecedented Gathering Marks the Final Journey of Legendary Singer Zubeen Garg

Guwahati: The final journey of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg witnessed an extraordinary turnout, with people from Assam and beyond coming together to pay their last respects. Nearly 2.5 million (25 lakh) people participated, making it the largest funeral procession in Assam’s history.

For comparison, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C.N. Annadurai, who passed away in 1969, saw around 15 million people attending his last rites, marking one of the largest funeral gatherings in history. Similarly, international pop icon Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, drew an estimated 1.6 million mourners during public tributes, highlighting the global scale of fan devotion. Zubeen Garg’s procession is expected to surpass many historical records for its scale and public participation.
