BPF holds massive rally in Bijni, Mohilary confident of strong poll performance

Bijni: The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) organised a massive public rally at Bijni on Wednesday as part of its statewide “Dispur Chalo” campaign, drawing a large crowd and witnessing the induction of several leaders from rival camps ahead of the upcoming elections. Addressing the gathering, BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary outlined the party’s electoral roadmap and expressed confidence that the party would perform strongly in the polls. He stated that the BPF aims to send at least 15 legislators from 15 constituencies to the Assam Legislative Assembly.

During the programme, several leaders joined the BPF, dealing a setback to the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). Among them were former councillor and UPPL central committee member Guneshwar Goyary, founding secretary Jyotirendra Brahma and Gossaigaon district founding president Prafulla Islary. Speaking about campaign preparations, Mohilary revealed that a helicopter for election campaigning had already arrived about a week ago, though he had not requested it. He said the aircraft was arranged in advance and is currently stationed in Guwahati due to lack of space locally, adding that the party would bear only 50 per cent of the rental cost.

Mohilary also said discussions on seat-sharing within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are underway and the party’s policy-making committee will meet on March 9 to take a final decision. Responding to remarks by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding a possible understanding with UPPL, he said negotiations would be held within the NDA framework. In a lighter moment, Mohilary joked that although Bijni has no hills, “if the people want hills, we will build them.”
