27 Senior Travellers Embark on Cultural Cruise Experience in Assam

Dhubri: A group of 27 senior travellers from England, New Zealand, and the USA arrived in Dhubri on Sunday as part of their 17-day “Assam Tour on Cruise” aboard the MV Mahabaahu. The visitors received a warm welcome at the historic Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Gurudwara, where they joined in traditional Sikh rituals.

For many, the stop at the gurudwara was a moment of deep cultural immersion. Christopher Caldicott, 68, from London, described tying a turban and wearing a kada—the symbolic steel bracelet of the Sikh faith—as a moving and memorable experience. “Praying in front of the Guru Darbar allowed me to feel the essence of Sikhism,” he said, praising the warmth and openness extended by the Sikh community.

All the guests also participated in the gurudwara’s customs, including sharing a meal from the langar (community kitchen). Liz Woodwalker, 83, from Devon, England, called it a “wonderful” experience, lauding the generosity and hospitality of the Sikh devotees.

The cultural river cruise, which set sail from Guwahati, has been curated to highlight Assam’s scenic beauty and rich heritage. Over the course of 17 days, the travellers will explore five national parks along with several historic and cultural landmarks. The initiative is organised by Nick Van Guisen, 70, from Oxford, in collaboration with Sanjoy Basu of Far Horizon Tours Pvt. Ltd. and Adventure Resorts and Cruises Pvt. Ltd.
