Speech Programme on “Reflections on Favourite Book”

North Lakhimpur: The Library of Lakhimpur Commerce College, North Lakhimpur organized a speech programme on the theme “Reflections on Favourite Book” as part of the Year of Book Reading initiative launched by the Government of Assam today. The meeting was presided over by the Principal, Dr. Lohit Hazarika, and began with a one-minute silent prayer offered in memory of the legendary singer and heartthrob of Assam, Zubin Garg, who passed away on 19th September.

Librarian Runjun Baruah welcomed the gathering and stated the objective of the programme, highlighting the importance of fostering a reading culture among students. In his inaugural address, Principal Dr. Hazarika spoke about the profound influence books have in shaping an individual’s life and their immense power to transform perspectives and character.

The inaugural session was followed by the prize distribution ceremony of the Essay Writing Competition on Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, conducted as part of the Government’s initiative. The first prize was awarded to Ranjan Saikia of B.Com 5th Semester, while the second prize went to  Liza Nath of B.A 5th Semester.

The main session featured engaging speeches delivered by Vice Principal Prof. Sazzad Hussain, faculty members Mridusmita Hazarika,  Tilok Deka, and Dr. Sikhamoni Borgohain, along with student participants Ranjan Saikia, Ishnara Yasmeen, Liza Nath, and Jessica Dutta. They reflected on their favourite books, which ranged from Homen Borgohain’s Astarag and Atmanuxandhan, Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, The Quran, Muru Eta Xopun Ase, to James Clear’s Atomic Habits. The diversity of choices enriched the session, making it a thought-provoking and inspiring experience.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Librarian Runjun Baruah, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, teachers, students, and participants for making the event a success.
