Two Abducted Men Found Dead in Forest Area of Manipur’s Kamjong District

Imphal, March 12: Two men who were earlier reported abducted were found dead in a forested area near Thawai Kuki in Kamjong district on Thursday morning, March 12, triggering fresh concern in the sensitive hill region.

The deceased were identified as Thengin Baite (40), son of late Sempao Baite of Thawai Kuki village, and Thangboimang Khongsai (35), son of late Kaipao Khongsai of Shangkai.

According to local sources, the two men were allegedly abducted on Wednesday by suspected members of an armed group. Following reports of their disappearance, search teams conducted operations in nearby forested areas and later discovered their bodies on Thursday morning.

The incident has heightened tension in parts of Kamjong and neighbouring districts, which have remained sensitive in recent months due to security concerns.

Meanwhile, the Shangkai Village Authority stated that the situation followed a series of incidents reported in the area on March 11. According to the village body, two villagers who had gone out to repair a water pipeline were allegedly abducted the same day.

Expressing concern over the developments, the village authority appealed to the Government of Manipur and other concerned authorities to intervene, ensure the safety of residents and take steps to prevent further escalation in the area. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
