Aizawl, March 12: The Government of Mizoram spent ₹685.93 crore to procure electricity from external sources during the current financial year, F Rodingliana informed the Mizoram Legislative Assembly on March 11.
Replying to a query raised by K Lalawmdawna of the Mizo National Front, the minister said the state’s internal electricity generation from both hydro and solar sources amounted to only 41 million units between January and December 2026.
Rodingliana said the government collected ₹245.33 crore as revenue from electricity consumers during the same period. However, he pointed out that the expenditure on procuring electricity from outside the state was considerably higher than the revenue generated from consumers.
Despite this gap, the minister told the House that the state has maintained a clean balance sheet and has cleared its debt related to electricity procurement.
Officials also informed the Assembly that the government is making continuous efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in power generation. In January this year, Lalduhoma laid the foundation stone for the Tuirini Small Hydropower Project in Aizawl district, which is estimated to cost ₹76.98 crore.
Meanwhile, the Detailed Project Report for the proposed Tuivai Hydroelectric Project in Saitual district, located near the Manipur border, has been completed. Officials added that the DPR for the Tlawng Hydro Project near Aizawl is expected to be finalised by September this year.
