Guwahati: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Manager and Loan Officer of State Bank of India posted at the Gumi Branch in Kamrup (Rural) district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹16,000 from a complainant to process loan applications related to rooftop solar electrification. According to an official statement, the case was registered on March 12, 2026, after the complainant alleged that the bank official had demanded the money as an undue advantage to facilitate the processing of loan applications for customers seeking financial assistance to install rooftop solar systems.

Acting on the complaint, CBI officials carried out a trap operation and allegedly caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant. The officer was immediately taken into custody. Following the arrest, investigators also conducted searches at premises linked to the accused to gather further evidence related to the alleged corruption. The action forms part of the CBI’s efforts to curb corruption in public sector institutions and ensure transparency in financial services connected to government-supported initiatives.
The arrested official was later produced before the Court of the Special Judge, CBI, in Guwahati for further legal proceedings. Officials said the investigation is ongoing, and authorities are examining documents and other evidence to determine whether more individuals were involved in the alleged bribery case.
