Adingiri Rashtriya Natya Utsav Draws Crowds Despite Storm, Showcases Theatre and Folk Traditions

Guwahati, March 17: The sixth edition of the Adingiri Rashtriya Natya Utsav, organised by Abhigyanm, concluded successfully after drawing theatre enthusiasts to Adingiri Hills for a three-day cultural showcase from March 13.

Despite adverse weather conditions, the festival witnessed strong participation, with the Natyakhetra hosting a blend of theatrical performances, interactive sessions and award ceremonies that highlighted both folk traditions and contemporary drama.

The event opened with a Kalaripayattu performance led by Dhruvajyoti Spandan. A total of seven productions were staged, including Kordoi Xiriya Paharor Sadhu by Monimala Das, A Stupid Common Man by Ranhang Choudhury, Agdum Bagdum by Abhik Bhattacharya, A BPL Love Story by Himangshu Prasad Das, Tamasa: The Darkening Light by Arpan Chakraborty and Jolti Burhir Jolfai by Mukul Idipase.

The festival also featured masterclasses conducted by theatre practitioners such as Raju Roy, Papori Medhi and Maharshi Tuhin Kashyap, focusing on acting techniques, media engagement and performance skills.

In the awards segment, Bhabananda Das received the Late Barnali Choudhury Lok Shilpi Sadhana Award 2025 for Thiya Naam recitation, while Giren Kalita was honoured with the 2026 award for Khol performance. Naren Patgiri was conferred the Late Debabrata Choudhury Natya Byaktitwa Award 2025, with Anup Hazarika receiving the award for 2026.

Set against the backdrop of lush hills, the festival further strengthened its position as a prominent theatre platform in Assam, promoting artistic exchange between traditional and modern performance forms.
