UPPL to Contest 15 Seats in Assam Polls, Pramod Boro Emphasises Development Agenda in BTC Region

Guwahati, March 18: Ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections, United People’s Party Liberal president Pramod Boro on March 18 reiterated the party’s commitment to development, rights protection and socio-economic upliftment in the Bodoland Territorial Council region.

Addressing the media, Boro said the party remains focused on ensuring holistic progress and safeguarding the interests of all communities in the BTC region. He stated that the UPPL aims to prioritise inclusive development and improve socio-economic conditions for the 26 communities residing in the area.

Boro also confirmed that the party will contest 15 constituencies in the elections, describing the move as reflective of public sentiment. He added that he would be contesting from the 43 No. Tamulpur (ST) constituency in line with party directives and people’s expectations.

The party has already released its first list of candidates for the polls scheduled on April 9. According to an official notification issued by UPPL general secretary (administration) Raju Kumar Narzary, candidates include Aninda Basumatary from Gossaigaon, Narzary himself from Dotma (ST), and Lawrence Islary from Kokrajhar (ST).

The list further names Nerswn Boro from Bhergaon, Dipen Boro from Udalguri (ST), and Kamalsingh Narzary from Bijni. The party stated that the nominations were finalised by its central working committee based on recommendations from its core committee.

Boro, who was recently elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha as a candidate of the National Democratic Alliance, is expected to spearhead the party’s campaign in the BTC region.

The Election Commission of India has scheduled polling in Assam on April 9, with counting of votes set for May 4.
