Sikkim Municipal Elections on April 24; Counting Scheduled for April 25

Gangtok, March 23: The State Election Commission Sikkim has announced the schedule for the upcoming municipal elections, with polling set for April 24 and counting to take place on April 25.

State Election Commissioner K.C. Lepcha formally declared the election programme, outlining a structured timeline for the electoral process.

As per the schedule, March 30 has been fixed as the last date for filing nomination papers. Scrutiny of nominations will be conducted on April 1, during which authorities will verify candidates’ documents and eligibility.

The final date for withdrawal of candidature has been set for April 4, allowing contestants a brief window to reconsider their participation after scrutiny.

Polling will be held across all notified municipal bodies on April 24, with arrangements to be put in place to ensure a smooth and fair voting process.

Counting of votes will begin at 8:00 AM on April 25, and officials indicated that results are expected to be declared the same day upon completion of counting.

The announcement is expected to trigger intensified political activity in the state, as parties and candidates prepare for key urban local body elections that will influence grassroots governance in Sikkim.
