Meghalaya Youth Shine at North-East Festival with Multiple Awards

Shillong, March 24: Young performers from Meghalaya secured multiple recognitions at the North-East Youth Festival held in Chumoukedima, highlighting the state’s growing cultural footprint in regional competitions.

An 80-member contingent representing different districts took part in a wide range of categories, including group folk song, folk dance, one-act play, rock band and solo guitar. Participants also engaged in adventure and food festival segments, showcasing a blend of traditional and contemporary artistic expressions.

Among the standout performers, Pynnehkupar Syiemlieh from West Khasi Hills earned recognition in the solo guitar category. In group events, a dance troupe from Ri Bhoi received a consolation prize in folk dance, while Jowai-based band Unfading Horizons was acknowledged in the rock band segment.

Officials said the achievements reflect both individual talent and the broader cultural strength of the state’s youth. They noted that such platforms provide crucial exposure and opportunities for performers to showcase their abilities on a larger stage.

The festival, which brought together participants from across the Northeast, served as a hub for cultural exchange and competitive engagement. Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Government of Nagaland, the event concluded with a closing ceremony attended by senior officials.
