Guwahati, March 24: The Women and Child Development Department, Assam has escalated a complaint under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, alleging sexual harassment, abuse of authority and retaliation at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, and has called for prompt action, including the possible suspension of the accused.
The complaint names Achyut Chandra Baishya, Principal of GMCH, as the respondent. In an official communication addressed to the Medical Education and Research Department, Assam, the Women and Child Development Department urged authorities to examine the allegations in detail and consider immediate suspension, as highlighted in the submission.
The grievance was filed by Dr. Mythili Hazarika, Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at GMCH, through the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS). The department has stressed the need for a thorough inquiry and appropriate action in line with legal provisions governing workplace harassment.
Officials have directed that the matter be processed with urgency, ensuring compliance with statutory safeguards and due procedure under the POSH framework.
