Imphal, March 25: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 25, marking his first official interaction with the President since assuming office.
The President’s Office shared a photograph of the meeting on social media, confirming the engagement between the two leaders. Singh was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Manipur on February 4, nearly a year after the resignation of his predecessor N. Biren Singh. The leadership change had followed prolonged ethnic unrest in the state.
Manipur has been grappling with violence since May 2023, when clashes erupted between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. The conflict has claimed more than 260 lives and displaced thousands, prompting the imposition of President’s Rule before the formation of the new government.
In a separate development, Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain, accompanied by his spouse Sabiha Hasnain, also met President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Hasnain had assumed office as Governor on March 14.
