Tripura TTAADC Polls: Left Front Demands Central Forces at Every Booth Ahead of April 12 Voting

Agartala, March 25: The CPI(M)-led Left Front in Tripura has sought the deployment of central paramilitary forces at every polling station for the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, intensifying its demand for enhanced security measures ahead of the April 12 vote.

A delegation headed by convenor Manik Dey met State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar and submitted a memorandum outlining steps to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling. The delegation stressed that the presence of central forces across all booths is necessary to build voter confidence and prevent any form of intimidation or irregularities during the electoral process.

The demand comes at a time of heightened political activity in the state, with the 28-seat council election seen as crucial in determining control over tribal-dominated regions. The council holds significant administrative authority in these areas, making the contest a high-stakes battle for major political parties.

The Left Front maintained that robust security arrangements are essential to safeguard democratic participation and enable voters to cast their ballots without fear or pressure. The State Election Commission has not yet issued a formal response to the proposal.
