Guwahati: The Kamrup District Administration has unveiled its official election mascot, “Kamrupiya,” ahead of the Assam Legislative Assembly General Elections 2026, aiming to strengthen voter awareness and participation across the district. Unveiling the mascot, District Election Officer-cum-District Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra said the initiative is part of efforts to enhance voter turnout, especially among young voters, through sustained campaigns under the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) programme. Senior Superintendent of Police, Kamrup, Subhasish Baruah and other officials were present at the ceremony.

The mascot, designed by Assistant Commissioner Udeshna Sarma, is a cheerful, blue, river-themed character symbolising the Brahmaputra. Dressed in traditional Assamese attire, “Kamrupiya” carries signboards representing both the North and South Bank regions of the district.

Highlighting its significance, officials said the mascot reflects Kamrup’s unique geographical identity, divided by the Brahmaputra River. It also showcases the six Legislative Assembly Constituencies—Chamaria, Boko-Chhaygaon, and Palashbari in the South Bank, and Hajo-Sualkuchi, Rangia, and Kamalpur in the North Bank. Authorities believe the creative initiative will make election outreach more engaging and accessible, helping ensure greater public participation in the democratic process.
