Tezpur: The Students’ Union of Tezpur Medical College observed Sahitya Divas with enthusiasm on Thursday, commemorating the legacy of Lakshminath Bezbaroa and marking the death anniversary of Mitradev Mahanta. Speaking as chief guest, noted novelist Bhupen Saikia highlighted Bezbaroa’s immense contribution to modern Assamese literature, describing him as the “uncrowned emperor” of the literary era. He underlined the deep patriotism reflected in Bezbaroa’s writings and paid tribute to Mitradev Mahanta for his lasting cultural contributions.

The programme was attended by in-charge Principal Nitu Gogoi, along with several faculty members and students. The event featured poetry recitation, elocution, a quiz competition and a short play based on Burhi Aair Sadhu. Kasturi Bora secured first place in the quiz, while teams “Agni,” “Jonak,” and “Barun” won the wall magazine competition. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks and the State anthem.
Meanwhile, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha and other groups also observed the day with floral tributes at Bezbaroa’s bust near Padum Pukhuri. Speakers recalled the enduring literary legacy of both stalwarts, with participation from writers and dignitaries across the region.
