Guwahati, March 28: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed a major election rally in Bijni constituency of Chirang district on March 28, continuing his campaign despite adverse weather conditions and drawing a significant turnout.
During the rally, Sarma refrained from commenting on speculation surrounding a reported late-night conversation with Akhil Gogoi, choosing instead to focus on the electoral landscape in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
Outlining the alliance dynamics, the Chief Minister stated that the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) is not currently part of the National Democratic Alliance in the region. He clarified that the NDA in the BTR comprises the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bodoland People’s Front, stressing that unity between the two parties is essential for the development of the Bodoland Territorial Council.
Expressing confidence in the alliance’s prospects, Sarma said the NDA is poised to win all 15 seats in the BTC. He also asserted that BJP candidate Arup Kumar Dey is set to secure victory in the Bijni constituency.
Despite inclement weather, the rally saw a large gathering of supporters. However, Union Home Minister Amit Shah cancelled his scheduled rally in Gossaigaon due to poor weather conditions, though he is expected to continue campaigning in the constituency.
The event was attended by key leaders, including BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary and Union Minister Rameswar Teli, along with thousands of supporters who turned up despite challenging conditions.
