Golaghat: Golaghat District Journalist Association, one of the oldest and premier organisations of journalists in the country observed its 61 st Foundation Day yesterday. A day-long program was held on the occasion. The program started with the hoisting of the flag of the journalist organisation by the President Rohit Gogoi. Then Swahid Tarpan was done by General Secretary Girin Bora and Secretary Pronab Chakraborty. After that a drawing competition was held among the students from Class I to Class VIII. In the evening the main event was held where three state level awards for excellence in journalism were conferred to three journalists.
This time Golaghat District Journalist Association’s Annual Ayodhya Prasad Goswami Memorial Award for Investigative Journalism was conferred to Dibya Jyoti Nath, senior journalist working for Asomiya Pratidin from Tezpur. Similarly Koustavmoni Hazarika Memorial Best Young Journalist Award was conferred to Bishnu Saikia, journalist at News 18 Assam North East, Guwahati. Along with that Amulya Dutta Memorial Award was conferred to Nabanita Gogoi, correspondent of Prag News from Amguri, Sibsagar.

In the program a souvenir on the life and contributions of Veteran journalist and social activist Apurba Kumar Baruah entitled ‘ Apurba ‘ was unveiled. Apurba Kumar Baruah’s daughter and the first woman President of Press Club of India Sangeeta Baruah Pisharoty was given special felicitation in the ceremony. MLA from Khumtai LAC Mrinal Saikia, Senior Journalist Dwipen Dutta and Apurba Ballav Goswami, Retired professor and filmmaker Dinesh Gogoi, senior official from Numaligarh Refinery Limited Santanu Gogoi, family members of Apurba Kumar Baruah, Kaustabhmoni and Hazarika, Amulya Dutta along with several other distinguished personalities were present in the program.
