RPF Intensifies Crackdown Across NFR, Seizures Cross Rs 1.93 Crore in March

Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has stepped up enforcement measures across its network, recording seizures exceeding Rs 1.93 crore and apprehending 37 individuals during operations in March. According to officials, a series of coordinated drives were carried out on March 24 at key Railway locations including Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Aluabari, Kamakhya, Hojai, Agartala, Samsi and New Bongaigaon. The operations targeted illegal activities such as contraband smuggling, ticket touting, theft, and arms possession.

In a humanitarian intervention, RPF personnel at Guwahati Railway Station rescued a minor boy from Train No. 15933 DN and handed him over to the Child Welfare Committee through Railway Childline for care and protection. In another operation, a team from the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) of Katihar apprehended a tout at Samsi Railway Station with 14 illegal e-tickets valued at over Rs 61,700. Officials said this action dealt a blow to organised ticketing rackets.

During March up to the 26th, RPF recovered 268.82 kg of ganja along with other contraband items including cigarettes, cough syrup, heroin, poppy seeds, and liquor. The combined value of the seized materials exceeded Rs 1.91 crore. Additionally, Rs 7.6 lakh in cash was recovered in one case. Under arms-related cases, one pistol, two magazines, and two live cartridges were seized.

The force also cracked down on theft-related incidents, apprehending eight offenders and recovering stolen items valued at Rs 86,000. Officials said the intensified operations reflect the RPF’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety and maintaining a secure railway environment across the region.
