PM Narendra Modi Credits BJP for Assam’s Shift from Instability to Peace, Targets Congress Ahead of Polls

Guwahati, March 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 30 said Assam has transitioned from a prolonged phase of instability to a period of relative peace over the past decade, attributing the change to the BJP’s “double-engine” governance at the Centre and in the state.

Addressing booth-level party workers in poll-bound Assam under the ‘Mera Booth, Sabse Mazboot Samvaad’ initiative, Modi highlighted that the government has signed 12 peace agreements with various organisations across the Northeast, describing them as part of sustained efforts to stabilise the region.

“We have seen the era when Assam was burning in violence… Assam saw a long span of instability, but things have changed in the past decade,” he said, adding that a renewed sense of confidence has emerged due to consistent efforts to maintain peace.

The Prime Minister criticised the Indian National Congress, alleging that previous governments entered into agreements that remained largely ineffective. He claimed that earlier peace accords failed to deliver tangible outcomes and left youth vulnerable to unrest, while asserting that the current government is implementing agreements “sincerely on the ground”.

Emphasising the link between stability and development, Modi said peace is essential for economic progress and urged party workers to engage with first-time voters, cautioning that any lapse could reverse gains made in recent years.

He also warned against misinformation, particularly AI-generated content, and called on workers to raise awareness among the public. Reaffirming his grassroots connect, Modi described himself as a party worker committed to fulfilling responsibilities.

Elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly are scheduled for April 9, with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance seeking a third consecutive term in the state.
