Heavy Rain, Storm Winds Disrupt Life in Lakhimpur; Sesa River Overflows

North Lakhimpur: Severe weather conditions battered parts of Lakhimpur district from Wednesday afternoon, disrupting normal life and causing widespread damage to property and infrastructure. The worst-hit areas included Ghilamora and Dhakuakhana, where strong winds uprooted trees and damaged several houses. Many fallen trees crushed rooftops and blocked local roads, while extensive destruction of vegetation was reported across multiple villages.

The situation worsened in the Dhalpur region under the Narayanpur Revenue Circle as the Sesa river swelled following continuous rainfall. Triggered by heavy rain in both the district and adjoining hills of Arunachal Pradesh, the river breached its banks late Wednesday night. Floodwaters began entering nearby villages around 11 p.m., creating panic among residents.

The rising waters also caused significant damage to the Hawajan–Simaluguri PWD road, a crucial link built under the Asom Mala project. The disruption has severely affected rural connectivity, hampering the movement of people and essential services. Local authorities have initiated damage assessment and are closely monitoring the situation. Officials expressed concern that continued rainfall could worsen flooding in low-lying areas. Residents have urged the administration to take immediate measures to restore connectivity and provide relief to affected families as the district grapples with the aftermath of the storm.
