Himanta Biswa Sarma Targets Rahul Gandhi, Gaurav Gogoi in Escalating War of Words

Guwahati, April 4: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 4 intensified political rhetoric ahead of the Assembly elections, launching a sharp attack on Congress leaders during a campaign address.

In a controversial remark, Sarma referred to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as “Pappu” and described Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi as a “chhota Pappu,” signalling a further escalation in the ongoing political exchanges.

Responding to opposition statements about possible legal action against him, the Chief Minister dismissed such claims as unrealistic. He asserted that even leaders like Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, along with Rahul Gandhi, would have to be “reborn” for such action to take place, adding that it would not happen in this lifetime.

Sarma further stated that his political opponents would require “several lifetimes” to take action against him, underlining his confidence amid increasing criticism from the opposition.

The remarks reflect a sharp escalation in the war of words between the BJP and Congress in Assam, as campaigning intensifies in the run-up to the elections.
