Tezpur: Two persons, including a young woman, were killed and another seriously injured in a tragic road accident that occurred in Tezpur in the wee hours of Sunday.
According to police sources, the deceased have been identified as Nabadeep Bhuyan and Rikshikha Talukdar (25). The injured person, Bhargav Saikia, sustained grievous injuries in the incident. Police said the accident took place at around 2 a.m. near the Kolia Bhomora bridge on the Tezpur–Nagaon connecting road. The vehicle bearing registration number AS-12AG-0908, travelling from the Nagaon side, reportedly lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch.

Police personnel who reached the spot immediately rescued the occupants and rushed them to Kanaklata Civil Hospital in Tezpur. Doctors declared Nabadweep Bhuyan and Rikshikha Talukdar dead. Bhargav Saikia, who was critically injured, was later referred to a private hospital for advanced treatment.
Preliminary investigation suggests that overspeeding may have led to the driver losing control of the vehicle, resulting in the accident. Police further informed that while Nabadeep Bhuyan and the injured Bhargav Saikia are residents of Tezpur, Rikshikha Talukdar hailed from Guwahati. Further investigation is underway.
