CM Dr. Sarma Questions ‘Coordinated’ CBI Demand in Zubeen Garg Death Case

Guwahati:  Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has questioned what he termed as “coordinated” calls by various leaders for a central agency probe into the death of Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg.

In a Facebook Live session, Sarma referred to similar demands made by event manager Shyamkanu Mahanta, Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi for the case to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Chief Minister said all three appeared to have expressed a lack of faith in the Assam Police and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) currently handling the case.

“Of late, Shyamkanu Mahanta, INC Assam and Akhil Gogoi are all making the same demand — that they don’t trust Assam Police and a central agency must probe the demise of beloved Zubeen. Is it a coincidence that all these characters are speaking in one voice?” Sarma remarked.

He further stated that while anyone has the right to move the Supreme Court or raise their concerns publicly, the timing and uniformity of these demands appear suspicious. “Sometimes it is a coincidence, sometimes it is deliberate,” he added.

Sarma’s comments come amid intensifying political and public scrutiny over the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death in Singapore, with multiple groups urging for a transparent and impartial investigation.
