Zubeen Garg Death Probe: Second Post-Mortem Report Handed to Wife

Guwahati:  In a major development in the ongoing probe into the death of Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the second post-mortem report conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) was handed over to his wife, Garima Saikia Garg, on Friday.

Special Investigation Team (SIT) officer Moromi Das personally delivered the sealed documents to Garima at the family’s residence in Kahilipara. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier stated that the decision to make the report public would be entirely up to Garima. The Singapore post-mortem report had been handed to her earlier on October 2.

Meanwhile, the investigation has taken a dramatic turn following the arrest of Siddharth Sharma, a close associate of Zubeen Garg. Police sources confirmed that Sharma was taken into custody after a witness, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, alleged in a statement recorded under Section 175 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) that both Siddharth Sharma and event manager Shyamkanu Mahanta poisoned Zubeen and staged his death as an accidental drowning during a yacht trip in Singapore.

The startling testimony, investigators say, forms the core of the latest charges against Sharma, including criminal conspiracy, murder, and culpable homicide. The grounds of arrest were signed by Dr. Rosie Kalita, Senior Superintendent of Police, CM’s Special Vigilance Cell.
