Khandu Dedicates Re-rated Kitpi Hydel Project to Tawang

Itanagar, April 9: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on April 9 dedicated the re-rated Kitpi Mini Hydel Project (Phase–I) to the people of Tawang, marking a key step in strengthening clean and reliable energy infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh.

The project, located at Kitpi village on the Nametrong River, was inaugurated in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, along with MLAs Tsering Lhamu and Namgey Tsering, and other dignitaries.

Originally designed with a capacity of 3×500 kW, the hydel project has been re-rated to 2×750 kW, improving efficiency and optimising resource utilisation to generate higher output. The upgrade is expected to provide a more stable and reliable power supply to the region while promoting renewable energy use.

Addressing the gathering, Khandu said the project would help reduce dependence on external power sources and support sustainable development in the border district of Tawang. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to expanding green energy initiatives and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
