Guwahati, April 10: The Assam State School Education Board has revealed that female candidates outnumbered male students in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2026, although boys recorded a higher pass percentage, as per the official Abstract of Results.
Out of a total of 4,38,564 applicants, 2,48,325 were female candidates while 1,90,239 were male. Among the 4,29,249 students who appeared for the examination, 2,42,781 were girls and 1,86,468 were boys, highlighting a significant gender gap in participation.
In terms of performance, male candidates registered a pass percentage of 67.78 per cent, surpassing the 63.96 per cent recorded by female candidates. The overall pass percentage stood at 65.62 per cent, with 2,81,701 students successfully clearing the examination. Of those who passed, 1,55,303 were female candidates and 1,26,398 were male.
Division-wise data showed that more female candidates secured first division, with 44,861 girls achieving this bracket compared to 40,328 boys. In the second division, 83,608 females passed as against 66,559 males, while 26,834 girls and 19,511 boys were placed in the third division.
The examination process also recorded 9,315 absentees. Authorities reported that five results have been withheld, while 135 candidates were expelled for using unfair means during the examination.
The HSLC examination remains a key academic milestone for students across Assam, playing a crucial role in shaping their future educational pathways.
