SIT Summons Two Prominent Assam Artists in Zubeen Garg Death Probe

Guwahati:  The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the mysterious death of singer-actor Zubeen Garg has summoned two well-known figures from Assam’s entertainment industry, as the investigation continues to unravel the circumstances surrounding the artiste’s untimely demise in Singapore. On Sunday, actor Vaishali Medhi appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office in Guwahati, accompanied by her mother, following a call from APS officer Moromi Das.

Singer Meghna Borpuzari, who had performed alongside Zubeen Garg as a co-vocalist for three years during his peak career phase, also arrived at the CID headquarters to record her statement. Both Medhi and Borpuzari were questioned by SIT officers Rosiee Kalita and Moromi Das, who are overseeing the interrogation process.

The latest round of questioning comes as investigators await a crucial viscera report, expected on October 10, which officials say could play a pivotal role in determining the cause of Zubeen Garg’s death. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has indicated that authorities expect “clearer answers” by October 11 once the forensic findings are received.

The probe, however, has been clouded by allegations made by Shekhar Goswami, who claimed that Zubeen was poisoned. The Chief Minister dismissed such statements as unverified, noting that the investigation will rely only on verified evidence. Several individuals, including Shekhar Goswami, Shyamkanu Mahanta, and Siddharth Sharma, have been either detained or questioned by the SIT. However, investigators face a major obstacle — obtaining cooperation from certain individuals currently in Singapore, believed to be key witnesses in the case.

Appealing for assistance, CM Sarma urged the Assamese community in Singapore to encourage those individuals to come forward. He also clarified that his recent visit to Zubeen’s Kahilipara residence was personal, emphasizing that he did not discuss the investigation with the family.

Meanwhile, the government has constituted a judicial commission inviting anyone with relevant information to come forward. The Chief Minister cautioned that unverified claims made for publicity should not be mistaken for factual evidence. The SIT continues to piece together evidence and testimonies as Assam — and Zubeen’s millions of fans — await the truth behind the loss of one of the state’s most beloved cultural icons.
