UDALGURI-SONITPUR, April 22: The NCC unit of Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College observed Earth Day 2026 with a series of awareness activities aimed at promoting environmental responsibility among students.
The programme featured painting and speech competitions centred on the theme “Our Power, Our Planet”. Cadets participated actively, expressing ideas on sustainability and environmental protection through creative artworks and presentations.
The event was attended by Principal Dr Sukdev Adhikari, Governing Body President Dr Jogendra Saikia, IQAC Coordinator Dr Hari Prasad Baruah, and several faculty members from different departments.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Adhikari highlighted the significance of the day, stressing that the Earth belongs to all species and underscoring the need to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles. He also emphasised the importance of alternative energy sources in ensuring environmental sustainability.
Dr Saikia raised concerns over biodiversity loss and called for collective efforts to preserve ecological balance. Dr Baruah spoke on groundwater depletion and urged individuals to develop responsible habits to maintain environmental harmony.
Cadets delivered speeches on renewable energy, ecological preservation, and traditional philosophical perspectives on environmental coexistence.
The programme was conducted by Capt. Dr Jyotshna Baruah and supervised by Lt. Dr Pitambar Sedai. Certificates were distributed to participants at the conclusion of the event.
