Yuva Mancha Tongla Announces Three-Day Bohagi Festival Celebration

Udalguri–Sonitpur, April 25: Yuva Mancha Tongla announced the organisation of its annual Bohagi Festival, scheduled to be held on May 13, 14 and 15 at the playground of Tongla Higher Secondary School.

The programme will commence on May 13 at 9 am with the hoisting of the Yuva Mancha flag by its president Prabin Hazarika, followed by the Bihu flag hoisting by Ajay Deka, president of the Bohagi Festival Celebration Committee, formally inaugurating the three-day event. The opening day will feature tribute ceremonies, including homage to singer Zubeen Garg, alongside children’s games, drawing competitions and solo Bihu dance contests. The day will conclude with a felicitation ceremony recognising contributors and distinguished guests.

On May 14, an All-Assam Mukali Bihu competition will be held from 4 pm onwards, which will be inaugurated by BTC Executive Member Diganta Barua. Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Jay Bikash and Superintendent of Police Padmanav Barua will attend as guests. Several Bihu teams from across the state are expected to participate in the competition.

The final day on May 15 will begin with a ceremonial lamp lighting at 7 pm, followed by a cultural evening from 8 pm onwards. The programme will be inaugurated by Baksa Superintendent of Police Ujjal Pratim Barua. The highlight of the evening will be a musical performance by the band “Yantra” and a group Bihu dance presentation by Ranjit Gogoi’s troupe.

Organisers stated that the festival aimed to promote Assamese cultural traditions and encourage youth participation in folk arts.
