Agartala, April 26: A 45-year-old daily wage labourer died after a soil collapse at his residence in Rajnagar Assembly Constituency of Tripura, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Ratan Bhowmik from Ekinpur under Siddhinagar tehsil, was reportedly digging soil when a portion of earth suddenly caved in, trapping him beneath the debris.
Following the incident, Disaster Management officials led by Sanjay Shil, along with sub-divisional administration personnel, rushed to the site and initiated a rescue operation. Machinery from the Public Works Department was deployed to clear the accumulated soil.
Despite the efforts, Bhowmik was found dead after being pulled out from under the debris.
The body has been sent to Nihar Nagar Primary Health Centre for post-mortem examination.
Officials said the deceased is survived by his wife and two children, adding that assistance will be extended to the bereaved family as per government norms.
