Assam CM Praises Dr Shekhar Suman Bora for Global Innovation Award in United States

Guwahati, April 27: Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 26 lauded young scientist Dr Shekhar Suman Bora for securing international recognition after being honoured with the ‘University Innovator Award’ at the Texas Innovation Conference & Awards 2026.

In a statement shared on social media, the Chief Minister described the achievement as a matter of pride for both Assam and the nation, noting that Bora’s recognition on a global platform reflects the growing contribution of Indian researchers in advanced scientific research and innovation.

Currently a research scientist at the University of Texas, Dr Bora received the award for his work in developing technologies with practical, real-world applications. The honour is conferred on researchers whose innovations demonstrate tangible societal impact.

The conference, held across Dallas and Fort Worth, brought together leading scientists, innovators and industry experts to showcase advancements in emerging technologies.

Before relocating to the United States, Dr Bora was associated with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, one of the country’s premier scientific institutions. His research spans microelectronics, UAV-based sensing, artificial intelligence and low-power intelligent systems, with a particular focus on agricultural applications.

A native of Tezpur, Dr Bora’s work centres on integrating advanced technologies into agriculture to enhance productivity and efficiency. His recognition has been widely viewed as a significant milestone, highlighting the rising global presence of researchers from Assam.
